In the 7th year of Guanghe, Zhang Jiao led an army of more than ten thousand men to sweep across the land. They made yellow banners and started an uprising. In just a few months, his army had grown so big that it could rival the government. He Jin immediately took action and asked permission from the emperor to rally troops and soldiers to eliminate the rebels.
The Han Dynasty was falling apart. Numerous heroes rose up throughout the lands. Counties bent together to form factions and alliances. Among them, Cao Cao controlled Shandong, Yuan Shao dominated Hebei, Sun Ce led Jiangdong, Liu Bei was stationed in Jingchu, Liu Zhang occupied Bashu, and Ma Teng was the lord of Xiliang. The heroes all started somewhere to pursue total conquest.
Since the world was divided, war has been raging for years. The factions led by Cao Cao, Sun Quan, and Liu Bei steadily grew into powers to be reckoned with. Cao Cao’s army ruled over the northern territory, including Hebei, Yongbing and Xiliang, to eventually take over the south. Sun Quan was dominating Jiangdong while Liu Bei was stationed in Jingzhou, which he had borrowed from Sun Quan. United, the Sun-Liu alliance fought against Wei. The two armies fought for countless rounds, striving to become the ruler of the world.
In the 13th year of Jian’an, Cao Cao had conquered Hebei and dominated the Heartland. Now, he had his eyes set on Jingzhou in the south. Stationed in Jingzhou, Liu Bei adhered to Zhuge Liang’s advice and retreated to Xiakou. At the time, Cao Cao wrote a letter to Sun Quan in an attempt to persuade him into submission and undermine his army’s morale. Later, Sun and Liu united as an alliance to fight against Cao Cao together. With the Yangtze situated at the center of this battlefield, an ugly conflict between these two factions seemed inevitable.
